Reading
Basal stories are used to emphasize reading skills.  Novels are also used.

Math
Saxson Math teaches addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.  Operations using fractional and decimal numbers are presented. Constant review is programed into each lesson.

English
Grammar and the six trait writing method are taught.  Fifth grade English will be taught by Mrs. Smith.

Science 5
The Fifth graders will be studying living things and ecosystems in life science.  In Earth science they will focus on the Earth's resources, weather, and space.  Types of matter, as well as forces and energy will be stressed in physical science. The class will be taking state standards in this class.

Social Studies
The history of the United States from its beginning is the focus. The class will be taking state standards in this class.

Spelling
Zaner Bloser spelling series is being followed.

Science 4
