During the spring and summer of 2007 the district started two major renovation projects. The boiler system in the swimming pool was the first project undertaken. The two boilers, which had been installed when the pool was constructed in 1970, became clogged and beyond repair. The 300 gallon hot-water storage tank was discarded and replaced by a commercial sized hot water heater. The two boilers were demolished and replaced by one, high efficiency hot water boiler. The installation of the hot water heater and boiler helped decrease monthly usage of natural gas by more than 1,000 therms. While the pool was drained volunteers power washed and painted the pool. Also during the renovation the Diatomite filter system was replaced with a sand filter system. The other major project was the renovation of the 2-story building. Ceilings were lowered and new lights and ceiling tiles were installed and a new boiler/heating and air condition system was installed. The cost of this project was just over $700,000 and was financed partially through the General Fund and partially with Qualified Capital Purpose Funds. 5-year bonds were sold at approximately 4% to help pay the cost. The Board of Education chose this process so not to deplete the General Fund. The learning environment was greatly improved with the new lights, lowered ceilings, and new paint. Students have commented on how quiet the rooms are now. No longer will students have to sit in rooms exceeding 90-100 degrees.
